Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Aesseal New York Stadium will host Tuesday’s League One game between Rotherham and Gillingham. The Millers did well to eliminate Stockport in the FA Cup at the weekend, with the team regaining a much-needed confidence. Rotherham United are eager to retain top position in the standings, and they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in the midweek clash. Both Angus MacDonald and Joe Mattock are out of contention with injuries, while Richard Wood and Shane Ferguson are major doubts.
The Gills, on the other hand, do not seem to be at their sharpest, with the team losing each of their last three league fixtures. The relegation strugglers have been struggling in front of goal of late, and they are unlikely to spoil Rotherham United’s party at Aesseal New York Stadium. Daniel Adshead is sidelined with injury, while Max Ehmer will be assessed ahead of the kick-off.
Highlighted Player (Adam Thompson):
Born in Harlow, England on September 28, 1992, Adam Thompson is a defender who plays for Bury in League One. Thompson started his youth career at Watford and after making 14 appearances for the Hornets at senior level, he moved to Southend United, signing a permanent deal with the club in January, 2014.
It has to be noted that he played for the likes of Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers and Barnet on loan as well before joining the Shakers. Adam Thompson has a short loan spell at Bradford City in the 2017/2018 season, but he made no more than nine appearances for the Bantams. Despite being born in England, Adam Thompson decided to represent Northern Ireland in international matches.
He made his debut with the Northern Ireland national team on February 9, 2011, coming from the bench in a 3-0 loss to Scotland. His main position is centre-back, but he is capable of producing fine showings at right-back as well.
Highlighted Team (Gillingham):
Founded back in 1893, Gillingham FC are an English club that compete in the League One. The Gills are well known for their blue shirts with black stripes, but they wear white shirts with a little yellow and blue, and yellow shirts when playing on the travels.
Priestfield Stadium is the club’s home ground, with the venue holding up to 11,582 spectators. Gillingham City have been playing at the stadium since the club’s foundation. Speaking of the club’s main rivals, over the years the Gills have built up a rivalry to Swindon Town. However, it has to be noted that Swindon fans do not consider Gillingham their biggest rivals.
Former goalkeeper Roy Hillyard is the Gillingham City player with the most appearances. The English shot-stopper played for Gillingham City from 1974 to 1991, making 655 appearances for the club. Brian Yeo is the team’s all-time top scorer, netting 149 goals in 387 appearances for the club from 1963 to 1975.
