Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
There will be fireworks when Lyon and St. Etienne face each other at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in the Rhone derby. Les Gones aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Troyes, but keep in mind that all Tino Kadewere, Islam Slimani, and Karl Toko Ekambi are on international duty. Both Jason Denayer and Sinaly Diomande are sidelined with injuries, but head coach Petr Bosz has a strength in depth.
Les Verts, on the other hand, aim to make amends for a 2-1 loss to Lens. St. Etienne are stuck at the bottom of the table, and given their shaky defence, we predict that the hosts are going to win the local derby. All Neyou, Moukoudi, Sow, and Bouanga are on international duty, as well as captain Wahbi Khazri. In their last meeting at the venue Lyon defeated St. Etienne 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Jerome Boateng):
After spending the 2010/2011 season at Manchester City, Jerome Boateng moved to Bayern Munich on 14 July, 2011. The 192-cm-tall defender joined the Bundesliga giants for a fee of €13.5 million and he has been playing for the Bavarians ever since. Despite the fact that his father is Ghanaian, Boateng decided to represent Germany on the international stage.
He has 15 caps for Germany U21 and represented Germany national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Bayern Munich defender produced a thrilling performance in the title game, preventing Argentine star Leo Messi from scoring. Boateng won the World Cup trophy with German and it has to be noted that he clinched his fourth Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in the 2015/2016 season.
In 2013 he helped the mighty Bavarians win the Champions League trophy. Unlike Jerome, his older brother Kevin-Prince Boateng plays for the Ghanaian national team. The Bayern Munich defender has a contract with the Allianz Arena outfit which expires on 30 June, 2012.
Highlighted Team (St Etienne):
Saint Etienne are a professional football club that compete in French Ligue 1. Les Verts were founded in 1919 by employees of a grocery store chain based in Saint Etienne. Saint Etienne wear green shirts and white shorts when playing at home ground and they play their home matches at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The stadium was opener on 13 September, 1931 and following the renovation the capacity of the venue increased to 42 000. In 1981 les Verts won their tenth Ligue 1 trophy, but they have been in the shadow of Ligue 1 giants Lyon and PSG in the 21st century.
Speaking of the club’s European success, Saint Etienne made it to the European Cup (Champions League) final in 1976, but Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich proved to be a big catch for the French outfit. Anyhow, that is regarded as the club’s biggest success. It has to be noted that the likes of Michel Platini, Jacques Santini, Laurent Blanc and Aime Jacquet all played for Saint Etienne in the past.
