Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Nantes and Olympique Marseille face each other at Stade de la Beaujoire in the Ligue 1 round 26. Nantes did well to beat Angers on the road in their last league fixture, but that did not help them escape the relegation zone. Les Canaris are eyeing their fifth win of the season, but the game against Marseille will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Both Fabio da Silva and Kalifa Coulibaly are likely to miss the game with injuries, while Kader Bamba is pushing for a start after scoring three goals in total in the previous two games in all competitions.
OM, on the other hand, continue to struggle under new boss Nasser Larguet. Marseille extended their winless run to seven games in the national championship at the weekend, and given the importance of Saturday’s clash for the hosts, we are tempted to put our money on les Canaris. Argentine attacker Dario Benedetto is sidelined through suspension, but Dmitri Payet is back.
Highlighted Player (Kalifa Coulibaly):
Kalifa Coulibaly is a Malian international who began his senior career at Paris Saint-Germain B. After spending four years at Parc des Princes, he moved to Charleroi in 2014 and the Malian striker scored seven goals in 31 league appearances for the Belgian outfit.
At the end of the season he left the club, signing a contract with Gent and he has been playing for De Buffalo’s ever since. Kalifa Coulibaly made his Gent debut on 9 August, 2015 in a 1-1 draw with Anderlecht. He scored four goals in 24 league games for the club in the 2015/2016 season, picking up just one yellow card in the process.
Coulibaly made his Mali debut on 15 October, 2013 in a 3-1 win over South Korea. He started the match from the bench, substituting Ousmane Coulibaly in the second half of the game. His contract with Gent expires on 30 June, 2019. Coulibaly’s main position is centre forward.
Highlighted Team (Marseille):
Olympique de Marseille are considered one of the best French football clubs. Les Olympiens won their ninth Ligue 1 title in 2010, but winning of the 1992/1993 Champions League trophy is seen as the club’s biggest success. Marseille defeated Italian giants Milan in the title game, with Basile Boli scoring the winner (1-0) in the Olympiastadion showdown.
It has to be noted, though, that the Stade Velodrome outfit were banned from defending the title in the 1993/1994 season after being involved in a match-fixing scandal. To make things even worse for the fans, the club suffered enforced relegation to the Ligue 2. Olympique de Marseille participated in the Europa League final on two occasions (1998/1999, 2003/2004), but they were beaten by Parma and Valencia respectively in the title games. OM’s home ground Stade Velodrome was opened on June 13, 1997 and the capacity of the stadium is 67.394.
The likes of Franck Ribery, Didier Deschamps, Didier Drogba, Laurent Blanc, Fabien Barthez, Samir Nasri, Fabrizio Ravanelli and Djibril Cisse all played for Marseille in the past.
