Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Buoyed by back-to-back wins over Marseille and Nantes, Lille will be aiming to secure a top-four finish with a triumph over Troyes on Matchday 38. Les Dogues have been in a fine form of late, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. The opposition back-line should have Canada forward David at bay as he scored a brace in the last league match, while all Ismaily, Andre Gomes, and Edon Zhegrova are out of contention through injuries.
Troyes, on the other hand, are having a season to forget, with the team collecting only 23 points in total to date. Considering that the hosts are already on vacation, we predict that the visitors are going to pick up all three points from the match. Forward Renaud Ripart misses out with an Achilles tendon problem, but he should be the only absentee in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Andre Gomes):
Andre Gomes is a Portuguese footballer who represented the likes of Porto, Boavista and Benfica during his youth career, but eventually signed a professional deal with the Eagles. Even if he hadn’t made too many first team appearances for the Portuguese giants, the midfielder saw his economic rights sold to a private company in January 2014, and the deal eventually saw him join Spanish giants Valencia.
The attacking midfielder immediately nailed down a regular starting berth at Mestalla, proving his undoubted potential, and catching the eye of top Italian sides such as Juventus and Napoli. Gomes has yet to establish himself as an important player for the Portugal national team, but he has made several appearances under Fernando Santos and is expected to play a key role for the Selecao in the future.
Possessing impressive technical skills and capable of covering a number of positions in midfield, Gomes is a modern midfielder who has been showing incredible maturity for his age, so no wonder he is predicted a bright future in the game.
Highlighted Team (Lille):
Lille have been playing an important role in French football ever since they were founded in 1944. Les Dogues won their first domestic trophy in the 1945/1946 season.
Lille did well to win their second Ligue 1 title in 1954 and 57 years later they lifted their last domestic title. Les Douges finished the 2010/2011 season in top position in the standings, eight points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille and it has to be noted that Lille attacker Moussa Sow won the Golden Boot (25 goals).
Lille are one of the two teams that managed to win three consecutive Coupe de France trophies (1946, 1947, 1948), but they have yet to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue title. Les Dogues faced PSG in the 2015/2016 Coupe de la Ligue trophy, but les Parisiens proved to be a big catch for Frederic Antonetti’s team in the title game.
Lille play their home matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and the capacity of the stadium is 50.186. The venue was opened in August, 2017 and the construction cost €282 million.
