AZ Alkmaar play host to Groningen at their AFAS Stadion in the opening match of their Eredivisie campaign. AZ Alkmaar have been in action of late, with the team outplaying Ilves 8-4 on aggregate in the Conference League second qualifying round and we are positive that they will stick to their attacking style of play. A man to watch in the home team will be Troy Parrott, who has already found his goal-scoring tough.
The Green and White Army, on the other hand, defeated Beerschot VA 3-1 in their last warm-up game. Groningen, though, are not considered good travellers and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling AZ’s party at AFAS Stadion. In their last meeting at the venue, AZ Alkmaar rolled over Groningen 3-0 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. The Cheeseheads were founded on 10 May, 1967 and they won their first trophy in 1981, finishing the season 12 points clear of Dutch giants Ajax. 18 years later AZ clinched their second Eredivisie trophy, with the team finishing the 2008/2009 campaign with 80 points, 11 clear of second-placed Twente.
