Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
AZ Alkmaar and Twente square off against each other at AFAS Stadion in what is expected to be an interesting Eredivisie game. The Cheese Farmers aim to build on back-to-back wins over RKC (3-2) and NEC Nijmegen (3-0), but they will have a big fish to fry against the Reds. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Vangelis Pavlidis, who managed to find the net in each of the previous three league matches, while both Jordy Clasie and Dave Kwakman miss out with injuries.
The visitors, on the other hand, faced no difficulties in a 3-1 victory over Almere City. As both Twente and AZ Alkmaar should be happy with one point from Sunday’s contest, we are tempted to place our bets on draw this time out. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team, but forward Myron Boadu remains in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Jordy Clasie):
Jordy Clasie is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy who plays for AZ Alkmaar as a midfielder. His main position is defensive midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both central midfielder and centre-back as well.
Clasie played for the likes of Feyenoord, Excelsior (loan), Southampton, and Club Brugge (loan) before returning to Rotterdam. After ending his second spell with Feyenoord, the Dutch footballer joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2019. He made his AZ debut in the Eredivisie on August 4, 2019 in a 4-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.
Jordie Clasie has 12 caps with the Netherlands U21 team, and he made his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Italy on February 6, 2013. Thanks to his elegant style of play, Clasie has earned the nickname of “Dutch Xavi”. The AZ Alkmaar midfielder was born in Haarlem, Netherlands on June 27, 1991.
Highlighted Team (Twente):
Based in the city of Enschede, Twente is a Dutch football club that welcomes their rivals at De Grolsch Veste. The venue was opened on May 10, 1998, and the capacity of the stadium is 30,205 people. The club was founded in 1965 as a merger of Sportsclub Enschede and Enschedese Boys.
The Reds did remarkably well to win the Eredivisie title in the 2009/10 season, with the team finishing the process only one point clear of Dutch giants Ajax. As a result, Twente booked their place in the Champions League group stages. The Reds did well to collect six points in their group, but that did not help them make it to the last 16.
Twente are well known for their red jerseys, but they wear dark blue shirts when playing on the travels. The Reds take on Heracles Almelo in the Twentse Derby. Sander Boshchker is leading Twente’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 653 goals on his account.
