Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Fortuna Sittard will be looking to turn their fortunes around when they face AZ Alkmaar at their Fortuna Sittard Stadion. The hosts have been in poor form of late, suffering four defeats in their last five league games. To make matters worse, they will be without important players Kristoffer Peterson, Alessio da Cruz, and Kaj Sierhuis (all injured), which significantly weakens their attacking potential.
AZ Alkmaar, meanwhile, have been producing fine performances against bottom-table sides. Despite the absence of Ibrahim Sadiq and Wouter Goes, AZ have the depth and quality to control the game. Their impressive form against struggling sides makes them strong favorites to pick up all three points from the match. Given Fortuna’s recent struggles and injury problems, AZ Alkmaar will likely take advantage and continue their fine run of form. You should know that AZ are eyeing their eighth consecutive win over Fortuna in the Dutch top flight.
Highlighted Player (Riechedly Bazoer):
Despite playing for PSV during his youth career, Riechedly Bazoer made his Eredivisie debut with Ajax. The central midfielder who was born on 12 October, 1996 in Utrecht, scored his first goal for Ajax on 15 February, 2015 in a 4-2 victory over Twente.
Four days later he made his European debut with the Amsterdammers, taking part in a 1-0 win over Legia in the Europa League. Bazoer scored five goals in 29 league appearances for Ajax in the 2015/2016 season, but he failed to win the domestic trophy with Frank de Boer’s troops.
Speaking of his international career, Bazoer has two caps for Netherlands U21 team and he made his debut for the first team on 13 November, 2015 against Wales. It has to be noted that he came as a late substitute in the 3-2 victory over the Dragons. Back in 2012 the right-footed midfielder won the UEFA U17 European Championship with the Dutch national team.
Highlighted Team (Sittard):
Fortuna Sittard is one of the newer additions to Dutch football as the club was founded on July 1, 1968. During the 1990s talented footballers such as Kevin Hofland, Mark van Bommel, and Fernando Ricksen played for the club, but they failed to close the gap between Dutch giants Ajax and PSV. In 1999, though, the Fortunezen did well to make it to the Dutch Cup final, with the team facing Ajax in the title game.
Amsterdammers defeated Fortuna Sittard 2-0 at De Kuip, with Jesper Gronkjaer scoring a brace. Fortuna Sittard players wear yellow shirts and green shorts when playing at home, while their away kit is white. The Fortunezen host their rivals at Fortuna Sittard Stadion. The venue was built in 1999, and it can hold up to 12,500 spectators.
Aforementioned midfielder Mark Van Bommel is the most notable footballer who played for the club. After ending his spell with Fortuna Sittard in 1999, Mark van Bommel played for the likes of PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, and Milan.
