Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Fallen Eredivisie giants Ajax will look to recover from a heart-breaking loss to Feyenoord in de Klassieker when they face RKC Waalwijk on Matchday 7. The Amsterdammers are eyeing their only second win of the process and the sacking of transfer chief Sven Mislintat could give players a confidence boosts as it is more than obvious that the Dutch powerhouse need changes. As for Saturday’s clash, midfielder Sivert Mannsverk misses out with a leg injury, while defender Ahmetcan Kaplan is a major doubt.
Captain Steven Bergwijn is pushing for a start after missing the Eredivisie derby with injury. RKC, on the other hand, have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team beating both Vitesse and Twente in the previous two league matches. Away win, though, should be considered as Ajax want this triumph more than Waalwijk. There are no fresh injury worries in the home team.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
Highlighted Team (Waalwijk):
RKC Waalwijk is a Dutch club that competes in the Eredivisie. RKC returned to the Dutch top flight in the 2019/20 season, and they were more than fortunate not to suffer relegation back to Eerste Divisie. Fred Grim’s men were stuck at the bottom of the table when the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, they did not drop to the Dutch second tier. RKC play home games at Mandemakers Stadion, the venue which can hold only 7,500 spectators. RKC Waalwijk are well known for their yellow shirts with blue strips, but their away kit is mainly black. The Mandemakers Stadion outfit have never won the national championship.
RKC, though, represented the Netherlands in European competitions in the past, with team taking part in Intertoto Cup on four occasions. Willem II are seen as one of the club’s main rivals, with the two teams facing each other in the Brabantse derby.
