Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Atletico Madrid play host to Leganes at their Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in a small Madrid derby. Los Rojiblancos are a real force to be reckoned with at home and they need to return to winning ways as soon as possible if they are to rejoin the title race. Argentina duo Rodrigo de Paul – Julian Alvarez is unlikely to start following their involvement in the World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, while both Cesar Azpilicueta and Robin Le Normand remain in the recovery room.
The visitors, on the other hand, are eager to claim a major scalp in the local derby, but seeing that they have yet to record a win on the road this term, we predict that Diego Simeone’s troops are going to pick up all three points from the match. Forward Naim Garcia misses the Madrid derby with injury, but he should be the only absentee in the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Jose Gimenez):
Jose Gimenez is a fast rising 21-year-old young Uruguayan defender who plays for Spanish club Atletico Madrid. Gimenez is primarily a central defender and is recognized to be a natural and fast defender who is classy on the ball. His qualities came to the fore during his youth team presence at Toledo but his professional debut was in 2012 for Danubio.
His stint at the club was short-lived as the highly rated defender was quickly snapped up by Atletico Madrid after raving reviews. He soon made his mark in Diego Simeone’s team and became a crowd favorite after scoring a vital header against rivals Real Madrid.
He participated in the FIFA U-20 World Cup reaching the finals with Uruguay. His senior team debut was in 2013 and has played 21 times for the national side. Gimenez also has three goals in international colors, the first of which came in 2014.
Highlighted Team (Leganes):
Leganes are a Spanish football club that have mostly been playing in lower leagues. Los Pepineros play their home games at Batarque (Madrid) and the capacity of the stadium is just 8,138. Leganes secured their promotion to the Spanish La Liga for the first time ever in 2016 and, no doubt, that is considered the club’s biggest success.
Leganes’ bitterest rivals are fellow capital club Getafe and there have always been fireworks when the two teams take on each other in the South Madrid derby.
The colour of the team’s home kit is white and blue, whilst their away kits are green. The likes of Pierre Webo, Samuel Eto’o, Ivan Zarandona, Jose Chamot, Catanha, Ruben Falcon, Jordi Lardin and Pedro Lago are famous players who were part of the Batarque outfit in the past. Lady Maria Victoria Pavon is the first female president in the history of the club and she has been in charge of the club since 2009.
