Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Osasuna and Espanyol go head to head at Estadio El Sadar in what is expected to be a close La Liga opener. Los Rojillos had a perfect pre-season, with the team win each of their six warm-up games. Osasuna head into the match following a 3-1 win over fellow Basque outfit Real Sociedad, and, no doubt, they are brimming with confidence ahead of the visit of Espanyol. Keep in mind that both Aridane and Rober Ibanez are likely to miss the opening match of the season through injuries.
The Catalans, on the other hand, were having their ups and downs in pre-season. The newcomers are eager to grab something from Saturday’s clash, but given Osasuna’s displays in the warm-up games, home win should be considered. A man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Raul de Tomas, who scored 23 goals in Segunda Division last term.
Highlighted Player (Roberto Torres):
After scoring 23 goals in 132 appearances for Osasuna B, Roberto Torres made his first-team debut on 11 December 2011. He came as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Malaga, but he played no more than two league games for los Rojillos in the 2011/2012 La Liga campaign. However, he was making progress year by year and he made 42 appearances for Osasuna in the 2015/2016 Segunda Division campaign.
Roberto Torres is one of the players who helped the team secure promotion to Primera Division and it has to be noted that the midfielder scored 12 goals in the 2015/2016 season.
Roberto Torres’ contract with Osasuna expires in 2018. The 178-cm-tall player was born in Pamplona, on 7 March, 1989. His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is capable of playing as a central midfielder as well. He scored his first goal in Primera Division in a 2-4 loss to Real Madrid in the 2012/2013 campaign.
Highlighted Team (Espanyol):
Espanyol are a Catalan club that plays in Spanish La Liga. Espanyol were founded in 1900 and their original name was Sociedad Espanola de Football. In 1901 the Catalan club changed its name to Club Espanol de Futbol. Los Periquitos used to play in bright yellow shirts in the past, but current colour of the team’s home kit is blue and white.
Espanyol’s fiercest rivals are Barcelona and the two teams face each other in the Catalan derby (Derbi barceloni). Espanyol have always been in Barca’s shadow, but it has to be noted that los Periquitos have won four Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup trophies).
The likes of Raul Tamudo, Jose Maria, Antonio Argiles and Mauricio Pochettino are players with most appearances for the Catalan outfit. Espanyol play their home games at Estadio Cornella-El Prat and the capacity of the stadium is 40,500. Los Periquitos have never participated in the Champions League.
