Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Buoyed by a 3-0 win over Celtic in their Champions League opener, Real Madrid will look to retain top position in La Liga when they host Mallorca to their Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday. Los Blancos are eager to defend their trophy, but given the number of top-class footballers that joined Barcelona in the summer, that is easier said than done. Anyhow, Carlo Ancelotti’s men are seen as hot favourites to beat los Bermellones on home soil.
The bad news for the hosts is that both Karim Benzema and Eder Militao limped off with injuries in the Celtic Park triumph. Mallorca, on the other hand, are a team with two faces. Considering that los Bermellones struggle on the travels, we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Real Madrid’s party at Bernabeu. All Iddrisu Baba, Dominik Greif, and Ndiaye Diedhiou are injured for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Victor Sanchez):
Victor Sanchez began his senior career at Barcelona, playing eight games for the Catalan giants in La Liga. He played for Barca B and Barca C in the past as well, but in 2011 he signed a two-year deal with Swiss side Neuchtatel Xamax. In the 2012 winter transfer window Sanchez returns to Spain, but this time out he joined Barca’s local rivals Espanyol.
The midfielder, who is capable of playing as a defender as well, signed a three-and-a-half year deal with los Periquitos and he has been playing for the club ever since. Victor Sanchez won the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies in the 2008/2009 season with Barcelona. He has yet to make his Spain debut, but he has three caps for Catalonia.
Victor Sanchez made seven appearances for Barcelona in the 2008/2009 campaign. Sanchez has a contract with Espanyol, which expires on 30 June, 2018. The midfielder was born on 8 September, 1987 in Terrasa.
Highlighted Team (Mallorca):
Thanks to a win over Deportivo La Coruna in the 2018/2019 Segunda Division play-offs final Mallorca secured promotion to Primera Division. Los Bermellones returned to the Spanish top flight following a six-year absence. Over the years Mallorca have turned their Estadi de son Moix into a real fortress, with the team producing much better showings at home than on the travels.
Opened in June 1999, the venue can hold up to 23,142 people. The club based in Balearic Islands are well known for their red shirts with one black stripe and black shorts. Mallorca’s away colours are white and red. Former Barcelona and Inter ace Samuel Eto’o is undisputedly the most notable footballer who played for the club.
Back in 1999 Mallorca made it to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final, with the team suffering a 2-1 loss to Lazio in the title game. Four years later los Bermellones won Spanish Copa del Rey, which is considered the club’s biggest success.
