Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Valencia will be looking to make amends for a 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid when they host Elche at their Estadio de Mestalla on Matchday 21. Los Che are not having a season to remember, which is anything but unexpected. The club chiefs sold no less than seven first-team regulars in the summer, and, as a result, Valencia’s main goal is to secure the La Liga survival. Uros Racic, who found the net in the 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid, is undisputedly the team’s brightest star.
Los Franjiverdes, on the other hand, are eager to escape the relegation zone. Elche suffered three defeats in the previous four league fixtures, and it seems as if Valencia will not have a better chance than this to return to winning ways. In the first half of the season Elche defeated Valencia 2-1 at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, meaning that the hosts are hungry for revenge.
Highlighted Player (Denis Cheryshev):
Probably the most famous Russian footballer never to have played for a domestic club, Denis Cheryshev was born in Nizhny Novgorod, but began his career at Sporting Gijon as his father played for the Spanish side at the time.
The talented winger eventually caught the eye of Real Madrid and went on to spend eight years in the youth academy at Santiago Bernabeu before he was given a chance to impress on senior level. Due to a fierce competition for places in Madrid, Cheryshev was forced to gain much needed first team experience via loan spells at Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia, and he showed a great deal of potential during those stints, proving los Blancos were wrong to let him leave.
Chersyhev has been in and out of the Russia national team since making his debut in 2012, but there is a good chance he will become an important member of Sbornaya Komanda as soon as he secures regular playing time at club level. The Russian footballer is capable of operating on either wing or through the middle, and he has proved to be quite prolific in terms of both goals and assists.
Highlighted Team (Elche):
Established in 1923, Elche is a Spanish club that competes in La Liga. Los Franjiverdes welcome their rivals at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero, the stadium which can hold up to 33,732 spectators. The venue was opened on September 8, 1976.
Elche wear white shirts with green stripe and white shorts when playing at home, while black is the dominant colour of their away jersey. The club’s biggest success came in 1969 as Elche made it to the Copa del rey final. Los Franjiverdes faced Club Atletico de Bilbao in the Spanish Cup final, with the Basques winning the match by one goal to nil.
The likes of Mario Pasalic, Ivan Bolado, Garry Rodrigues, Goran Djorovic, Albert Nadj, Wakaso, Moha, Carlos Sanchez, Ioan Andone, Enzo Roco, Dominique Malonga, Richmond Boakye, and Sory Kaba are some of the notable players who were part of the team in the past. Elche have never represented Spain in European competitions.
