Our prediction for this Scottish Premiership match:
Rangers will look to melt Celtic’s advantage in the standings when they take on Kilmarnock on Matchday 22. The Gers survived Aberdeen in the League Cup semis, and they are now on a quest to keep their Premiership title hopes alive. All Davis, Helander, Lawrence, Hagi, Souttar, and Yilmaz have been struggling with injuries of late, but boss Michael Beale can count on key players for the midweek fixture.
The Killie, on the other hand, sit in the penultimate position in the table with only 20 points on their account. The hosts have been having their ups and downs at the start of 2023, but given their shaky defence, we predict that Rangers are going to pick up vital three points from Wednesday’s encounter. Both Cameron and Dorsett should miss out through injuries, speaking of the home side, while experienced forward Christian Doidge is pushing for a start after coming from the bench in the League Cup defeat to Celtic.
Highlighted Player (Christian Doidge):
Over the years Christian Doidge has established himself as one of the best attackers in Scotland Premiership. Born on August 25, 1992 in Newport, Doidge is a Wales international who plays for Hibernian in the Scottish top flight.
He is a product of the Southampton football academy, but he did not see any game action in the Premier League with the Saints. The towering striker played for Bristol Rovers during his youth career as well before joining Cwmbran Celtic at senior level. He played for the likes of Barry Town, Carmanthen Town, Dag & Red, Dartford (loan), Forest Green Rovers, and Bolton Wanderers (loan) as well before signing a deal with the Hibs.
Christian Doidge made his Scotland Premier League debut on August 3, 2019 in a 1-0 win over St. Mirren. The Wales attacker scored his first league goal for the Hibs against the same opponent three months late. Doidge has yet to receive a call-up for the Wales national football team.
Highlighted Team (Rangers):
Glasgow Rangers are one of the two synonyms for Scottish Football. Glasgow Rangers were founded back in 1872 and they have been playing an important role in the Scottish top flight ever since. The Gers won their 54th Scottish Premier League title in the 2010/2011 season, but winning of European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy in 1972 is considered the club’s biggest success.
Glasgow Rangers defeated Dynamo Moscow in the final of the competition, with the likes of Stein and Johnston (two goals) scoring for the Scottish side. Celtic are considered the club’s biggest rivals and there have always been fireworks when the two teams meet in the Old Firm derby. The likes of Paul Gascoigne, David Weir, Stefan Klos, Chris Boyd, Ian Durrant and Kenny Miller are some of Rangers’ former notable players.
It has to be noted that the Gers welcome their rivals at Ibrox Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 50,817. Rangers’ support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community.
