Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Real Oviedo and Lugo square off against each other at Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere at the start of the new La Liga 2 campaign. Los Azules were anything but impressive in pre-season, but the bookies still see them as slim favourites to win the season opener. Summer signing Erik Jirka is pushing for a start, while a man to watch in the home team will be experienced attacker Marco Sangalli.
Lugo, on the other hand, secured the La Liga 2 survival last season thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano. The visitors are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in the season opener, and seeing that Oviedo rarely concede when playing at home ground, a low-scoring affair is on the cards at Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere. New recruit Josep Sene is likely to make his Lugo debut against Real Oviedo.
Highlighted Player (Alejandro Arribas ):
Born in Madrid, Spain on May 1, 1989, Alejandro Arribas is a Spanish footballer who plays for Real Oviedo in La Liga 2. Arribas is a very experienced defender as he played for Primera Division sides Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna, Deportivo La Coruna and Sevilla in the past.
He is a product of Rayo Majadahonda football school, but he did not see any game action with the club at senior level. Alejandro Arribas played for Mexican club UNAM before signing a three-year deal with Real Oviedo in the summer of 2019.
He made his debut with los Azules in a 2-1 loss to Fuenlabrada on August 31, 2019. The towering defender has never received a call-up for the Spain national football team. His main position is centre-back, but he can be used as a right-back as well if needed. The right-footed footballer has a contract with Real Oviedo until June 30, 2021.
Highlighted Team (Lugo):
Based in the autonomous community of Galicia, CD Lugo is a Spanish football club that plays in Segunda Division. Despite being founded back on June 16, 1953, Lugo have never competed in the Spanish top flight. The club’s best result in Segunda division came in the 2016/17 season when they finished 9th.
Los Albivermellos wear red shirts with white stripes when playing at home, whereas white and blue are the dominant colours of the club’s away kit. CD Lugo played their first official game on September 13, 1953, with the team beating Pontevedra 3-1. Ponferradina are seen as the club’s fiercest rivals, with the two teams facing each other in Derbi de los Ancares.
The likes of Samuel Galindo, Serge Leuko, Ivan Zarandona, Ramon Azeez, Angel Guirado, Fabri, Fernando Seoane, Jose Juan, and Diego Lopez are some of the famous footballers who played for the club in the past. Anxo Carro, the stadium with the capacity of 7,070 is the club’s home ground.
