Our prediction for this Serie A match:
Frosinone will be looking to make amends for back-to-back losses to Bologna and Cagliari when they take on Empoli in the Serie A round 11. The Canarini have been flying low of late, with the team obviously struggling at the back, but they are surely capable of matching Empoli in front of home fans. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be talented forward Matias Soule, who scored a brace at the weekend, while both Sergio Kalaj and Abdou Harroui remain in the recovery room.
The Azzurri, on the other hand, aim to recover from a massive 3-0 loss to Atalanta. Empoli are not regarded as good travellers, but seeing that they defeated Fiorentina in their last away game, we predict that they are going to grab something from Sunday’s clash. All Mattia Destro, Tommaso Baldanzi, and Giuseppe Pezzella are out of contention with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Mattia Destro):
Mattia Destro started his youth career at Ascoli, but in 2005 he moved to Inter. The Italian attacker, though, made his debut in the Serie A with Genoa in the 2010/2011 season. He scored 2 goals in 16 appearances for the Rossoblu and at the end of the season he signed a deal with Siena. Destro netted 12 goals for Siena in 30 league appearances for the club and on 30 July, 2012 he joined fellow Serie A team Roma for a fee of €8.5 million.
The Italian footballer made his debut for the capital club on 2 September, 2012 in a 3-1 victory over Inter. Destro scored 24 goals for Roma between 2012 and 2015 and after ending his loan spell with Milan he joined Bologna on 20 August, 2015.
Speaking of his international career, the Bologna forward has 15 caps for Italy U21 and he made his debut for the senior team on 15 August, 2012 against England at Wembley Stadium. He made Italy’s 2014 provisional FIFA World Cup squad, but he eventually failed to make the final roster.
Highlighted Team (Frosinone):
Back in 1912 Frosinone were founded as Unione Sportiva Frusinate and it has to be noted that the colors of the team were originally red and blue. They were later changed to the current yellow and blue and the Canarini have been wearing those kits ever since. Frosinone made their first ever appearance in the Serie A in the 2015/2016 season, but they failed to secure the promotion.
The Canarini finished the season in 19th place in the standings, eight points behind Udinese, who eventually avoided relegation to Serie B. However, two years later Frosinone returned to the Italian top flight as they defeated Palermo 3-2 on aggregate in the play-offs final.
The club play their home games at Stadio Benito Stirpe, the stadium that was opened in 2017. The venue can hold 16,227 spectators and it is owned by the Municipality of Frosinone. The construction cost €20 million.
