Our prediction for this Serie A match:
Stadio Via del Mare will be the centre of attention when Lecce and Atalanta go head to head in the opening match of the new Serie A campaign. The Giallorossi aim to build on the Coppa Italia triumph over Mantova, but they will have a big fish to fry in the opening match of the season. Midfielder Mohamed Kaba misses the season opener with injury, while new signing Filip Marchwinski should make his Lecce debut against Atalanta.
The Orobici, on the other hand, did well to win the Europa League trophy last term, with the team outclassing Bayer Leverkusen in the final. Atalanta have big ambitions for the new season as well and seeing that the club chiefs managed to keep hold of key players Ademola Lookman, Gianluca Scamacca, Marten de Roon, and Charles De Ketelaere in the summer transfer window, away win should be considered. To make things even better for the fans, the likes of Mateo Retegui and Niciolo Zaniolo (loan) have joined the Gewiss Stadium outfit.
Highlighted Player (Marten de Roon):
After spending his youth career in ASWH, Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam, Marten de Roon made his senior debut on 27 March 2010. The midfielder played for Sparta against Twente back then, but he made no more than three appearances for de Kasteelheren in the 2009/2010 season.
Marten de Roon joined Heerenveen in 2012 and in 2015 he moved to Serie A side Atalanta. He made 36 appearances for Atalanta in the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign, but on 4 July, 2016, he signed a contract with Middlesbrough for a reported fee of £12m. The Dutch footballer scored one goal in three appearances for Netherlands U19 team.
Marten de Roon was born in Zwinjndrecht, Netherlands on 29 March, 1991. His main position is central midfield, but he is capable of playing as a defensive and attacking midfielder as well. Martin de Roon is a right-footed footballer and he is 185 cm tall.
Highlighted Team (Lecce):
When you imagine a yellow-red shirt, Lecce must be the first club that comes to your mind. Founded back in 1908, Lecce are Italian club that will compete in the Serie A in the 2019/2020 season. The Giallorossi return to the Italian top flight following a seven-year absence and, as always, they will host their rivals at Stadio Via del Mare.
The venue which was opened on September 11, 1966 can hold up to 33,876 people. The likes of Antonio Conte, Graziano Pelle, Javier Chevanton, Juan Cuadrado, Mirko Vucinic, Fabrizio Miccoli and Massimo Oddo are one of the most notable footballers who played for the Italian club in the past.
Lecce and Gallipoli face each other in the Salento derby and there have been fireworks in meetings between the two clubs since the 2009/2010 Serie B season when they first met in the league.
