Our prediction for this Serie A match:
Sampdoria and Verona go head to head at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on day 27 of the 2022/2023 Serie A campaign. La Samp suffered a 4-2 loss to Juventus at the weekend, but their display in the Allianz Stadium defeat was anything but poor. The club chiefs still have faith in Serbian tactician Dejan Stankovic, but the rock-bottom side have slim survival chances. Anyhow, Sampdoria will not have a better chance than this to get back on course. The likes of Emirhan Ilkhan, Sam Lammers, Emil Audero, and Ignacio Pussetto are sidelined with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team.
The Mastini, on the other hand, have been struggling on the travels this term, and given their poor away record of 0-5-7, we predict that Dejan Stankovic’s troops are going to win the relegation six-pointer. All Cyril Ngonge, Federico Ceccherini, and Suleman Kakari are out of contention through injuries.
Highlighted Player (Jeison Murillo):
Jeison Murillo is a 24-year-old Colombian defender who plays for Inter Milan in Serie A. The centre back started in the youth teams of Deportivo Cali but made his senior professional bow with Udinese and Granada, as part of the partnership agreement between the clubs.
He moved on a permanent basis to Granada in 2011 but spent most of his time on loans at fellow Spanish league clubs Cadiz and Las Palmas. His talent was there for everyone to see and soon he would end up moving to Inter Milan in 2015. Murillo made his international debut for Colombia in 2014.
He was also a member of the 2015 Copa America squad and scored his solitary goal in national colors against Brazil. He would go on to win the “Best Young Player” of the tournament. Murillo is a hard-tackling no-nonsense centre back and is regarded as a ball-playing defender, which is almost a rarity in world football.
Highlighted Team (Verona):
Founded back in 1903, Hellas Verona are a professional football club that compete in the Italian Serie A. The “Mastini” are well known for their yellow and blue jerseys and they welcome their opponents at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Hellas Verona share rivalry with Chievo Verona and the two local rivals face each other in the “Derby della Scala”.
The first derby of Verona was played on November 18, 2001, with Hellas Verona emerging triumphant (3-2). In 1985 the Mastini won their first and only Scudetto, with the team finishing the season in top position in the Serie A standings, four points clear of second-placed Torino. The likes of Preben Elkjaer, Giuseppe Calderisi, Hans-Peter Briegel, Pietro Fanna and Antonio Di Gennaro led Hellas Verona to the historical success.
However, the most famous footballer who played for Verona is Romania international Adrian Mutu, who scored 16 goals in 57 appearances in the league for the Stadio Marc’ Antonio Bentegodi outfit. Verona will compete in the Italian top flight in the 2017/2018 season as they finished the 2016/2017 Serie B campaign in second position in the table.
