Our prediction for this Copa del Rey match:
A spot in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals will be at stake when Real Sociedad and Mallorca face each other at Reale Arena on Tuesday evening. La Real kicked off 2023 in style, with the team eliminating Logrones in the Spanish Cup, while beating both Almeria (2-0) and Athletic Club (3-1) in La Liga, and, no doubt, the Basques are brimming with confidence ahead of the visit of Mallorca.
All Sola, Turrientes, Sadiq, Guevara, and Merquelanz remain in the recovery room, but Imanol Alguacil can count on key players for the Copa del Rey game. Los Bermellones, on the other hand, continue with their old habit of producing much better displays at home than on the travels, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on Real Sociedad. Javier Aguirre has a full squad to choose from ahead of the trip to San Sebastian.
Highlighted Player (Mikel Oyarzabal):
Intelligence is not an attribute you will find in Mikel Oyarzabal’s stats with Real Sociedad but this tricky winger is a highly knowledgeable winger who will use both brain and feet while playing. For a player born in Eibar, who made his first steps in his hometown club, it was always going to be a choice between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad for Oyarzabal.
La Real saw their chance and grabbed this gem of a player at a young age, helping him develop into a proper professional throughout their youth ranks. Mikel Oyarzabal has spent the entirety of his senior career with the Basque behemoths where he’d use his ability to fill in a number of positions up top much to his own benefit.
Oyarzabal’s positioning and movement are work of a tactical genius, whereas it is his nous to find details to exploit that best define him as a player. Having come through the youth categories of the Spanish national team, Oyarzabal also has a senior cap next to his name. It was in 2016 that he also represented the Basque region, scoring on his debut to cap a 3-1 win over Tunisia.
Highlighted Team (Mallorca):
Thanks to a win over Deportivo La Coruna in the 2018/2019 Segunda Division play-offs final Mallorca secured promotion to Primera Division. Los Bermellones returned to the Spanish top flight following a six-year absence. Over the years Mallorca have turned their Estadi de son Moix into a real fortress, with the team producing much better showings at home than on the travels.
Opened in June 1999, the venue can hold up to 23,142 people. The club based in Balearic Islands are well known for their red shirts with one black stripe and black shorts. Mallorca’s away colours are white and red. Former Barcelona and Inter ace Samuel Eto’o is undisputedly the most notable footballer who played for the club.
Back in 1999 Mallorca made it to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final, with the team suffering a 2-1 loss to Lazio in the title game. Four years later los Bermellones won Spanish Copa del Rey, which is considered the club’s biggest success.
