Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Chelsea will look to recover from a disappointing 2-0 loss to Brentford when they take on Blackburn in yet another home fixture. The Blues are on a four-game winless run at home in the Premier League, but they will not have a better chance than this to return to winning ways. Pacey fullback Reece James is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while all Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benjamin Chilwell, Romeo Lavia, and Trevoh Chalobah are out of contention with injuries.
The Seasiders, on the other hand, failed to impress in a 1-0 loss to the Championship at the weekend and seeing that Mauro Pochettino’s troops are desperate to regain a much-needed confidence, home win should be considered. The likes of Lewis Travis, Aynsley Pears, Ryan Hedges, and Sam Gallagher should miss out with injuries for the visiting team, while both Moran and Markanday are pushing for a start.
Highlighted Player (Thiago Silva):
Brazilian defender Thiago Silva is one of the highest rated defenders in world football. Having emerged from Fluminense youth ranks, the 31-year-old defender established himself as a world-class performer while plying his trade for AC Milan from 2009 to 2012.
Having largely contributed to Rossonerri’s title winning campaign in 2010-11, Thiago Silva moved to Paris Saint-Germain together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a reported fee worth €42 million, which made him then second-most expensive defender in football history after Rio Ferdinand.
Silva was an immediate success at the French club, helping Les Parisiens win four consecutive Ligue 1 titles in the process. Heavily linked with a move away from Parc des Princes, fan favourite Thiago Silva remains a key figure at Paris Saint-Germain and a leader of the new wave under head coach Unai Emery. Having already surpassed the 100-game mark for the French giants, Thiago Silva is slowly writing his name in the history books of Paris Saint-Germain.
Highlighted Team (Blackburn Rovers):
Blackburn Rovers have been trying to return to the Premier League ever since they dropped to the Championship in 2012. The Riversiders compete in the English second tier and they play their home games at Ewood Park. Blackburn were founded back in 1875 and they are one of the founding members of the Football League (1888).
Burnley are considered Blackburn’s main rivals and the two teams square off against each other in the East Lancashire derby. It has to be noted that Blackburn Burnley 7-1 in their first ever meeting in the East Lancashire Derby on 3 November, 1888. The Riversiders have won three First Division (Premier League) trophies (1911/1912, 1913/1914, 1994/1995).
Blackburn Rovers have clinched six FA Cup titles as well. Speaking of the club’s European success, the Riversiders won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2007. The colour of Blackburn’s home kit is blue and white.
