Our prediction for this match:
Leipzig continue their preparations for the new Bundesliga campaign as they take on Montpellier in a pre-season friendly. The Red Bulls kicked off pre-season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar, with teenager Lazar Samardzic scoring the winner. Summer signing Brian Brobbey is set to make his Leipzig debut, as well as former Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Andre Silva.
La Paillade, on the other hand, have been having their ups and downs in pre-season, with the team obviously struggling at the back. Considering that the Ligue 1 side experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 3-2 loss to Clermont, we are tempted to put our money on the Red Bulls. It has to be noted that Leipzig and Montpellier meet for the first time ever in a friendly game. A man to watch in the away team will be Algeria international Andy Delort, who scored 15 goals in the French top flight last term.
Highlighted Player (Yussuf Poulsen):
Yussuf Poulsen is a Danish footballer who started his youth career at BK Skjold. At the age of 14 he joined Lyngby and he made his debut for the first team on 4 December, 2011. He came as a substitute in a match against Horsens after 84 minutes, substituting Mathias Tauber. However, he made no more than five league appearances for Lyngby in the 2011/2012 season.
Despite the fact that Lyngby dropped to Denmark 1st Division, Poulsen did not leave the club in the summer transfer window and it has to be noted that he made 30 appearances for the Vikings in the 2012/2013 campaign. On 4 July, 2013 he signed a deal with Leipzig and he has been playing for the German outfit ever since.
The 193-cm-tall attacker is capable of playing as both right and left winger. Poulsen’s father is Tanzanian, but he decided to represent the Danish national team. He made his debut for the senior team against Albania on 11 October, 2014. Poulsen scored his first ever goal for Denmark in a 2-0 win over Serbia on June 13, 2015.
Highlighted Team (Montpellier):
Over the years Montpellier have established themselves as a mid-table side in French Ligue 1. Montpellier are considered one of the youngest clubs in France as they were founded in 1974, but it has to be noted that a number of high-profile footballers played for the club in the past. French football legend Laurent Blanc played for Montpellier from 1981-1993 and he scored 76 goals in 24 appearances in the league for the club. Eric Cantona, Roger Milla, Carlos Valderama and Olivier Giroud played in Montpellier’s colors as well, but Pascal Baills is the player with most appearances for the club (429).
La Paillade did remarkably well to win the Ligue 1 trophy in 2012 and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Montpellier won Coupe de France on two occasions (1929, 1990), with the team beating FC Sete and FC Paris respectively in the title games. The team welcome their rivals at Stade de la Mosson and the capacity of the stadium is 32.900. In 1999 Montpellier won the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
