Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Derby County will look to move one step closer to securing automatic League One promotion when they take on Wycombe at Adams Park. The Rams have been having their ups and downs of late, with the team losing to Northampton, beating Blackpool, while sharing the spoils with Portsmouth, but they are still seen as favourites to beat the Chairboys on the road. Sonny Bradley serves the last of his three-game ban, while all Callum Elder, Joe Ward, Max Bird, Dwight Gale, Craig Forsyth, and Ryan Nyambe remain in the recovery room.
The hosts, on the other hand, aim to recover from a heart-breaking EFL Trophy loss to Peterborough, but seeing that they have nothing to play for in the season finale, we are going to place our bets on the promotion hopefuls. The likes of Kane Vincent-Young, Brandon Hanlan, and Saxon Earley remain on the sidelines with injuries, while both Gideon Kodua and Bez Lubala are back after the duo was ineligible to face the Posh in the EFL Trophy final.
Highlighted Player (Conor Hourihane):
Conor Hourihane is an Irish footballer who plays for Barnsley. The midfielder was born on 2 February, 1991 and he started his youth career at Premier League club Sunderland. In 2011 he joined Plymouth Argyle and he spent three years at Home Park.
After scoring 15 goals in 125 appearances for the Pilgrims in 2014 Hourihane decided to take next big step in his career. On 23 June he signed a three-year deal with Barnsley for a fee of £250,000. In August he won the League One Player of the Month award and, no doubt, he made a flying start to his Barnsley career. Hourihane made 46 appearances for the Tykes in the 2014/2015 League One campaign, scoring 15 goals and he certainly helped the team return to the Championship.
The Irish midfielder has eight caps for the U-21 team. His main position is central midfield, but he is capable of playing as defensive and left midfielder as well. Conor Hourihane is a right-footed footballer.
Highlighted Team (Wycombe):
Founded back in 1887, Wycombe Wanderers are one of the oldest clubs in the League One. The Chairboys are well known for their sky blue and dark blue shirts, but the colour of their away kit is orange combined with gun-metal gray.
Wycombe Wanderers host their rivals at Adams Park, a small stadium in Sands Industrial Estate which can hold up to 10,137 people. Milton Keynes Dons are seen as the club’s main rivals, with the two teams facing each other in the Buckinghamshire derby. Wycombe Wanderers made it to the FA Cup semis in the 2000/2001, with the team repeating the success in the League Cup six seasons later.
It has to be noted that the Chairboys have two FA Trophy titles (1991, 1993). Legendary midfielder Gareth Ainsworth is considered one of the club’s most famous players. Ainsworth scored 16 goals in 112 league appearances for Wycombe Rovers.
