Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Sunday’s football game between Ajax and Heerenveen will bring down the curtain on day 1 of the new Eredivisie campaign. The Amsterdammers proved their worth in back-to-back Conference League wins over Vojvodina, but, no doubt, there is still room for improvement in Francesco Farioli’s team. Left-back Owen Wijndal remains in the recovery room, while returnee Bertrand Traore is pushing for a start. Brian Brobbey should play some part in Sunday’s clash as well after the 22-year-old was rested in the Conference League second qualifying round.
Robin van Persie’s troops, on the other hand, are eager to claim a major scalp in the season opener, but seeing that Ajax do not suit them, we are tempted to bet on the Amsterdammers this time out. In their last meeting at Johan Cruijff Arena Ajax rolled over Heerenveen 4-1 and we predict that history is going to repeat itself. One of the men to watch in the away team will be summer signing Danilo Al Saed.
Highlighted Player (Steven Berghuis):
Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands on December 19, 1991, Steven Berghuis is a Dutch winger who plays for Ajax in the Eredivisie. Berghuis played for the likes of Vitesse/AGOVV, WSV Apeldoorn, and Go Ahead Eagles during his youth career before joining Twente in 2009.
The 183-cm-tall footballer continued playing for the Reds at senior level. After ending his loan spell with VVV-Venlo, Steven Berghuis joined AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012, and three years later signed a deal with the Premier League club Watford. After making no more than nine appearances in the English top flight, Berghuis moved to Feyenoord in August 2016, and he has been playing De club aan de Maas ever since.
His main position is right winger, but he is capable of producing fine displays as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well. He made his Netherlands debut on May 27, 2016 in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
Highlighted Team (Heerenveen):
Heerenveen is a Dutch football club that is well known for their white shirts with blue stripes. De Superfriezen (The Super Frisians) play home matches at Abe Lenstra Stadium, which has the capacity of 26,400 people.
Heerenveen have yet to win the Eredivisie title, but they impressed in the 1999/00 season, with the team finishing the process in second position in the standings. Thanks to a top-two finish, the club booked their place in the Champions League. Heerenveen, though, recorded only one in the group stages of the elite competition as they defeated Olympiakos 1-0 at home ground. De Superfizien retain a fierce rivals with Cambuur, and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two teams.
It has to be noted that Heerenveen won the Dutch Cup in the 2008/09 season, with the team beating Twente on penalties in the title game. New Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech played for Heerenveen at the start of his senior career.
