Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Sparkles will be flying when Chelsea and West Ham United take on each other in the local derby on Sunday. Both sides are eyeing a place in European competitions, but Chelsea are seen as favourites to win this London derby. Chelsea’s recovery room remains pretty long, but Mauro Pochettino still has a number of high-profile footballers to choose from. All Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Benjamin Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, Enzo Fernandez, and Christopher Nkunku are out of contention with injuries.
The Hammers, on the other hand, produced a fine display in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool. Given West Ham’s attacking potential, we believe that there is a big value in betting on over 2.5 goals. Towering centre-back Nayef Aguerd should be the only absentee in the visiting team as Greece international Konstantinos Mavropanos has overcome his injury. In their last meeting at Stamford Bridge Chelsea defeated West Ham 2-1.
Highlighted Player (Thiago Silva):
Brazilian defender Thiago Silva is one of the highest rated defenders in world football. Having emerged from Fluminense youth ranks, the 31-year-old defender established himself as a world-class performer while plying his trade for AC Milan from 2009 to 2012.
Having largely contributed to Rossonerri’s title winning campaign in 2010-11, Thiago Silva moved to Paris Saint-Germain together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a reported fee worth €42 million, which made him then second-most expensive defender in football history after Rio Ferdinand.
Silva was an immediate success at the French club, helping Les Parisiens win four consecutive Ligue 1 titles in the process. Heavily linked with a move away from Parc des Princes, fan favourite Thiago Silva remains a key figure at Paris Saint-Germain and a leader of the new wave under head coach Unai Emery. Having already surpassed the 100-game mark for the French giants, Thiago Silva is slowly writing his name in the history books of Paris Saint-Germain.
Highlighted Team (West Ham):
West Ham United are an English football club based in East London. The club was founded in 1895 and it has to be noted that the club’s name was Thames Ironworks back then. The Hammers were playing their home games at Upton Park from 1904 until 2016, when they moved to the Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
West Ham have won three FA Cup trophies (1964, 1975 and 1980) and they were runners-up in 1923 and 2006. The capital club finished the 1985/1986 England first division campaign in third place in the standings and that is the club’s highest placing in the top flight. West Ham United have strong rivalries with fellow London clubs, but Tottenham Hotspur are considered the club’s main rivals.
A number of top-class players were part of West Ham in the past and the likes of Joe Cole, Carlos Tevez, Paolo Di Canio, Paul Ince, Julian Dicks, Shaka Hislop, Michael Carrick and Slaven Bilic are some of them.
