Monday’s football game at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero will bring down the curtain on day 1 of the new La Liga campaign. Last time out los Franjiverdes secured the survival thanks to a 2-0 win over Athletic, meaning that the Lions are hungry for revenge. Elche failed to impress in their last warm-up game, with the team losing to Levante (1-2), and it is no surprise they are seen as underdogs in the season opener.
Defender Gonzalo Verdu is out of contention through injury. The Basques, on the other hand, aim to make amends in what was unsuccessful 2020/21 La Liga campaign. Both Kenan Kodro and Yuri Berchiche are sidelined with injuries, but head coach Marcelino can count on key players for the season opener. As always, a man to keep an eye on in the away team will be Inaki Williams.

Victor Rodriguez is a professional player who began his senior career at Vilajuiga, playing 36 matches for the club and scoring 11 goals. After spending three years at Badalona the pacey winger joined Zaragoza and it has to be noted that he scored six goals in 72 appearances for the Estadio La Romareda outfit in La Liga.
On 7 August, 2014 Victor Rodriguez signed a three-year deal with Elche, but in August 2015 he was sent to Getafe on loan. Rodriguez scored two goals in 33 appearances for los Azulones in the 2015/2016 Primera Division campaign, but following Getafe’s relegation to Segunda Division, he signed a four-year deal with Sporting Gijon in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Victor Rodriguez has yet to make his Spain debut, but he played for Catalonia in a friendly game. The Sporting Gijon winger is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well. Rodriguez was born in Barcelona on 23 July, 1989.

The club from Bilbao is playing in the highest Spanish division since its founded in 1928 and is next to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for a longest period of time in the Primera Division. Athletic de Bilbao used to play until 2012 in the San Mames stadium (also known as La Catedral).
Since 2013 the club is playing in anew stadium. Athletic Bilbao is known for its rivalry with Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid was founded by Bask students in Madrid. The old relationship between both teams is visible in the red blue jerseys of both teams.
The second team Athletic de Bilbao is playing in the Segunda Division B in Spain. Athletic Bilbao won the Primera Division 8 times, the Copa del Rey 24 times, the Spanish super cup 2 times. Athletic de Bilbao didn’t won any prizes in Europe yet but managed to be the runner up in 1977 and 2012 in the UEFA cup.
