Our prediction for this Scottish Premiership match:
Thursday’s Boxing Day clash between St. Mirren and Rangers will bring down the curtain on day 19 of the new Premiership campaign. The Saints aim to build on back-to-back wins over St Johnstone and Ross County and they are likely to adopt yet another attack-minded approach against Rangers. Defender Scott Tanser serves a one-game ban for the hosts, but forward Toyosi Olusanya is back from suspension.
The Gers, on the other hand, recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Dundee FC at the weekend, with Czech Republic winger Vaclav Cerny scoring the only goal of the match. Rangers aim to melt Celtic’s advantage in the year finale and given their six-game winning run against St. Mirren, away triumph should be considered. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team ahead of the trip to Paisley, which is yet another reason why we are going to bet on Philippe Clement's troops.
Highlighted Player (Tom Lawrence):
Tom Lawrence is a Welsh footballer who plays as a winger for Championship side Derby County. Born in Wrexham (Wales) on January 13, 1994, Tom Lawrence played for Everton and Manchester United during his youth career.
The 180-cm-tall footballer, though, made no more than one appearances for the Red Devils in the Premier League as he was immediately sent on loan to Carlisle United. The Wales international played for the likes of Yeovil Town, Leicester City, Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and Ipswich Town as well before signing a contract with Derby County. Tom Lawrence’s main position is left winger, but he is used as both second striker and right winger as well.
The Derby County man made his Wales debut in November 2015 in a 3-2 loss to Netherlands. The highlight of his career is the goal he scored against Georgia in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. His preferred foot is right and he wears No. 10 jersey at Derby County.
Highlighted Team (St Mirren):
St Mirren are Scottish football club that compete in the Scotland Premier League. Founded in 1877, the Buddies play home games at St Mirren Park. The venue, which was built in 2009, can hold up to 8,000 spectators.
St Mirren are well known for their white and black home kit, while black and violet are the dominant colours of their away kit. The Scottish club played their first match against Johnstone Britannia on October 6, 1877, winning the game by one goal to nil. St Mirren have a bitter rivalry with Greenock Morton, and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two clubs.
The Buddies recorded their biggest win on January 30, 1960, with the team crushing Glasgow University 15-0 in the Scottish Cup. David McCrae is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 221 league goals. St Mirren have won the Scotland Premiership three times (1925/26, 1958/59, 1986/87).
