Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
Sunday’s football game at Mewa Arena pits together Mainz and Union Berlin, the two teams who defeated Bochum and Hertha respectively on Matchday 1. Die Nullfunfer are high on spirits ahead of the visit of Union Berlin, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. A man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Karim Onisiwo, who scored a brace in the season opener, while all Jonathan Burkardt, Silvan Widmer, Niklas Tauer, and Danny da Costa should miss out with injuries.
The capital club, on the other hand, looked sharp in front of goal in the Berlin derby, and, taking everything into account, we believe that punters from all around the globe can find value in betting on both teams to score. Julian Ryerson is a major doubt, while both Fabio Schneider and Timo Baumgartl are injured for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Silvan Widmer):
Silvan Widmer was born in Aarau, Switzerland on 5 March, 1993 and, as expected, he began his senior career at his home-town club Aarau. He made nine appearances for the reserve team in the 2010/2011 campaign and he played for the first team between 2011 and 2013, scoring 11 goals in 65 league appearances for the club.
The pacey right back, who is capable of playing as a right midfielder and a left back, signed a deal with Udinese in the summer of 2012, but he remained at Aarau until 2013. Silvan Widmer has 15 caps for Switzerland U21 team and he played for the U 19 side in the past as well, scoring three goals in eight appearances for the team.
He made his debut for the senior team on 31 March, 2015, in a 1-1 draw with USA in Zurich. Widmer came as a substitute to replace fellow Serie A footballer Lichtsteiner after 46 minutes. His contract with Udinese expires on 30 June, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Union Berlin):
Union Berlin are a German football club originally founded back in 1906. Die Eisernen play home games at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei which can hold up to 22,012 spectators. Union Berlin’s home kit is red, with the team wearing white shirts and white shorts on the travels.
Union Berlin finished the 1923 domestic campaign as runners-up, with the team suffering a 3-0 loss to Hamburger SV in the title game. Speaking of the club’s biggest success in the German Cup, die Eisernen made it to the final of the competition in the 2000/2001 season. Schalke, though, proved to be a big catch for Union Berlin in the decider, with Jorg Bohme scoring a brace for die Knappen (2-0).
Union Berlin will face their local rivals Hertha in the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season as they secured promotion to the German top flight, but Hansa Rostock are considered the club’s main rivals.
