Our prediction for this League 1 match:
After surviving Fleetwood on Tuesday evening, Sheffield Wednesday will look to seal their spot in the playoffs when they take on Portsmouth on the last day of the season. The Owls are with one foot in the playoffs, but they can’t afford any complacency in the decider as all Wycombe, Plymouth, and Sunderland are pushing for a start. All Adeniran, Hutchinson, and Dean are sidelined with injuries, while Josh Windass made his return from injury in the midweek triumph.
The Pompey, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Gillingham and Wigan. The visitors, though, have nothing to play for in Saturday’s clash, which is probably the main reason why we are going to put our money on Wednesday. The good news for the visitors is that Marcuss Harness has overcome his injury, but all Downing, Freeman, and Hackett-Fairchild remain in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Scott Wootton):
After spending his youth career at English giants Liverpool and Manchester United, Scott Wootton played for the likes of Tranmere Rovers, Peterborough United, and Nottingham Forest on loan at senior level. In the summer of 2013, the defender signed a three-year deal with Leeds United.
Scott Wootton made 66 appearances for the Whites in the league before moving to Rotherham United on loan. In August 2016, the English footballer joined League 1 club Milton Keynes Dons, signing a two-year deal with the Stadium MK outfit. Nowadays, Scott Wootton plays for Plymouth Argyle in the League Two, where he wears the number 5 jersey.
Scott Wootton’s primary position is a centre-back, but he is capable of producing fine performances at right-back as well. The 188-cm tall defender, whose preferred foot is right, has three caps for the England U17 team. Scott Wootton was born in Birkenhead, England, on September 12, 1991.
Highlighted Team (Sunderland):
Sunderland are a professional football club that have been playing their home games at the Stadium of Light since 1997. The capacity of the stadium is 49,000, but before expansion the original ground capacity was 42,000. Red and White shirts are Sunderland’s trademark and the club’s fiercest rivals are Newcastle United. The two local rivals have been contesting in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898 and there have always been fireworks in what is one of the greatest derbies in English football. Sunderland were on the verge of dropping to the Championship in the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign, but experienced tactician Sam Allardyce eventually helped the team avoid relegation.
The Black Cats have won six First Division trophies (now the Premier League), with the team lifting two FA Cup titles. Sunderland won their first FA Cup trophy in 1937, with the team beating Preston North End 3-1 in the title game. The club was founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C.
