Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
All eyes will be on Estadio Wanda Metropolitano when Atletico Madrid and Valencia go head to head in the La Liga round 5. Los Rojiblancos did well to beat Athletic Bilbao on the road before the international break and, as a result, the odds for home win have been dropping. Midfielder Pablo Barrios misses out with injury, but he should be the only absentee in the home team this time out. Summer signing Julian Alvarez will once again lead the line for the hosts.
Los Che, on the other hand, are no longer considered one of the teams to beat in La Liga, with the team collecting only one point in total from possible twelve. As over the years Atletico have turned their “Metropolitano” into a real fortress, anything but a routine home victory would be a big surprise. Former Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja can’t count on the likes of Dani Gomez, Hugo Duro, Jose Gaya, Rafa Mir, Jaume Domenech, and Mouctar Diakhaby for Sunday’s showdown.
Highlighted Player (Antoine Griezmann):
Anthony Griezmann is a French forward born on 21st March 1991 in Macon, and he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting footballers at the moment. The pacey striker started showing his potential shortly after coming through Real Sociedad’s youth academy and he went on to score 46 goals in 179 league appearances for La Real. Excellent displays in Spanish la Liga saw him become a target for a number of top clubs, but he eventually choose to sign for Atletico Madrid, and that proved to be a very good decision.
Griezmann continued the rich vein of form at Vicente Calderon, scoring some important goals as los Colchoneros enjoyed domestic and European success, while also becoming a key member of the France national team.
Playing as a winger or second striker, Griezmann possesses impressive technical skills, he is a strong finisher and still finds time to work hard for his side, so no wonder he is widely regarded as one of the leading forwards on the continent. He won the U19 European Championship with France and is tipped to lead Les Bleus to glory on senior level as well.
Highlighted Team (Valencia):
Founded on March 18, 1919, Valencia FC are a Spanish football club that compete in La Liga. Los Che play their home games at Estadio de Mestalla, the stadium which was opened back in May, 1923. The capacity of the venue is 50,000. Seeing that bats are quite common in Valencia, it is no surprise they are nicknamed the Bats.
Valencia made it to the Champions League final on two occasions (2000, 2001), but they were beaten in the title games by Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen respectively. The Spanish club, though, did well to win the UEFA Cup title in the 2003/2004 season, with the team beating Marseille in the final of the competition.
A number of top-class footballers were part of the club in the past, with the likes of Pablo Aimar, Ruben Baraja, David Albelda, Santiago Canizares, John Carew and Gaizka Mendieta all playing for the Estadio de Mestalla outfit. Valencia main colors are white and black, whilst they often where orange jerseys and shorts when playing on the travels.
