Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
Tehelne pole will host Thursday’s Conference League game between Slovan Bratislava and Basel, the two teams who are vying for a spot in the knockout stages. Slovan desperately needed a win in Switzerland a week ago, and they managed to get one. The Slovaks have regained a much-needed confidence, and they are surely capable of matching the Rotblau in front of home fans. The good news for the hosts is that Venezuela forward Eric Ramirez has recovered from illness.
The Swiss side, on the other hand, are hungry for revenge, but keep in mind that defender Kasim Adams misses the reverse fixture through suspension. Anyhow, both teams to score betting option should be considered as both sides will go for a win in Thursday’s showdown. All Essiam, Lopez, Marchand, and Tushi have been struggling with injuries of late, speaking of the away side.
Highlighted Player (Michael Lang):
Standing tall at 1.85 m, Michael Lang is a Swiss international defender who has gone through all ranks of the Switzerland national team to earn his senior call-up in 2013. Michael Jang began his professional career playing for FC St. Gallen where he spent five years before he moved to Grasshopper. During his four-year spell with the club he racked up 127 league appearances and scored 12 goals.
In 2015 Lang joined FC Basel on a free transfer, for whom he scored his first goal against the old club Grasshoppers only a week after his arrival. Michael Lang made 22 Swiss Super League appearance during the title winning season 2015-16, making an important contribution to his club’s 19th championship title in history.
During that time the 25-year-old Swiss international also managed to bag five goals for his club, which is regarded as a considerable tally for a defender. Having gone into the new season with two goals to his name already, Lang is expected to play a significant part in his team’s UEFA Champions League challenge.
Highlighted Team (Basel):
One of the most successful football clubs in Switzerland, FC Basel were founded in 1893. The RotBlau as they are referred to by the Swiss play their games at the St. Jacob Park in Basel in front of 37,500 people which is the maximum capacity of the venue.
The 19-time Swiss champions have endured difficult times in 1980s which ultimately led to relegation from the top flight in 1987. FC Basel returned to the top tier of Swiss football in 2000s to win their first league title in 22 years and go on to win it nine more times over 13 seasons since 2002. The golden times for FC Basel brought European inclusion in every season since 1999-2000 with a pinnacle being the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2012-13.
The RotBlau have so far played over 95 UEFA Champions League games, winning almost half of their European outings. The Swiss club has produced plenty of talented players who went on to become prominent footballers all across Europe with Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka being the most outstanding members of the latest generation.
