Our prediction for this Copa del Rey match:
There will be fireworks when Valencia and Athletic Club face each other at Estadio de Mestalla in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Los Che set up a meeting with Athletic Bilbao by rolling over Sporting Gijon 4-0, but they face a difficult task against the Lions. As always, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani, while all Nico, Domenech, and Correia remain in the recovery room. Samu Castillejo, though, should be fit for the match.
The Basques, on the other hand, suffered a dip in form, with the team losing to both Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in the last two league matches. Since Athletic often struggle on the travels, we are tempted to put our money on draw. The Williams brothers should pose a big threat to the opposition back-line, while defender Yeray Alvarez returns from suspension.
Highlighted Player (Edinson Cavani):
Edinson Cavani is a professional footballer who plays for Paris Saint-Germain as a striker. The Uruguayan attacker was born in Salto on 14 February, 1987 and he began his senior career at Danubio. In 2007 he moved to Europe, signing a deal with Serie A outfit Palermo.
After scoring 34 goals in 109 league appearances for the Sicilian outfit, he joined Napoli in 2010. You should have in mind that Cavani scored a brace on his Napoli debut against Elfsborg in the Europa League. The Uruguay forward scored 78 goals in 104 Serie A games for the Partenopei and, as a result, big-spending French club PSG decided to sign him in 2013.
Cavani scored 19 goals for les Parisiens in the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign, but he was in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow during the season and he started a number of games from the bench. In 2011 the PSG attacker won the Copa America trophy with Uruguay as la Celeste hammered Paraguay 3-0 in the game for the title.
Highlighted Team (Athletic Bilbao):
Athletic Club (mostly known as Athletic de Bilbao) is a Spanish football club from the Bask region which is playing currently in the Primera Division. The club from Bilbao is playing in the highest Spanish division since its founded in 1928 and is next to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for a longest period of time in the Primera Division. Athletic de Bilbao used to play until 2012 in the San Mames stadium (also known as La Catedral).
Since 2013 the club is playing in anew stadium. Athletic Bilbao is known for its rivalry with Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid was founded by Bask students in Madrid. The old relationship between both teams is visible in the red blue jerseys of both teams.
The second team Athletic de Bilbao is playing in the Segunda Division B in Spain. Athletic Bilbao won the Primera Division 8 times, the Copa del Rey 24 times, the Spanish super cup 2 times. Athletic de Bilbao didn’t won any prizes in Europe yet but managed to be the runner up in 1977 and 2012 in the UEFA cup.
